My original plan for this Go West! adventure was to drive the route. However, once I calculated the cost of gas, factored in the possibilities of car trouble and looked at drive times between cities, I went with Plan B.
Greyhound!
The Discovery Pass lets me stop and start as I please while I tour the U.S of A.
The upside is that I can sleep on the bus when my travel time is at night and relax and watch the scenery as I move through the states. The trick will be that I'm at the mercy of their schedule ... to a degree.
This only means that I may have to stay in one place a little longer or for less time than I'd hoped (depending on what time the bus leaves for my next stop).
I don't plan to stay at any one person's home for more than a night or two, and in some cases, it will just be for a quick layover during the day before I move on.
Again, though, this trip isn't so much about the "getting there", but more about the adventure along the way. So "plan" is a rather loose term here. :o) Also, there are towns where I have several friends, so I will couch-hop around those places.
In other words, the Journey truly IS the Destination. I only have three definite spots and dates to hit.
Disney World on July 3rd and 4th, Madison, WI on July 14th, and the trip will end in Portland, OR on September 1st. The rest of the plan is somewhat fluid and depends on the magic of the moment as I move across the land. I've scheduled enough to have an outline of how I'll get from A to B (to C?), but I'm leaving enough open to keep alive the adventure part of it all.
I've been told that it's an ambitious plan and I see the little twitch of doubt in some of the faces when they hear of my crazy idea. However, there are three things that I know.
1) I will be exactly where I need to be when I'm meant to be there.
2) Everything will work out perfectly. Everything.
3) Whatever happens, it will be Absolutely Fabulous!
